(WEEK - 23) Promoting Menstrual Hygiene in Rajajipuram, Lucknow
In an effort to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene and support women’s health, a small initiative was carried out in the slum areas of Rajajipuram, Lucknow. Sanitary napkins were distributed among women and young girls, many of whom lack regular access to basic hygiene products.
Menstrual health is still a sensitive and often neglected topic in many underprivileged communities. Due to lack of awareness, affordability, and accessibility, women and girls are often forced to rely on unsafe alternatives, which can lead to serious health issues.
During the distribution drive, not only were sanitary napkins provided, but conversations were also initiated to educate them about the importance of maintaining hygiene during menstruation. The interaction aimed to break the stigma surrounding periods and encourage open discussions.
The response from the community was heartwarming. Many women expressed gratitude and shared their challenges, highlighting the need for more such initiatives. Young girls, in particular, showed curiosity and willingness to learn, which is a positive step toward change.
This small effort reflects the importance of collective responsibility in addressing basic health and dignity. Ensuring access to menstrual hygiene products is not just a necessity—it is a step toward empowering women and promoting overall well-being in society.
More such initiatives are needed to create awareness, provide resources, and build a supportive environment where no woman feels ashamed or deprived of her basic rights.
